TEEN ADVISORY BOARDS (T.A.Bs)

Teens making plans

T.A.Bs are teen advisory boards located at various branches throughout the East Baton Rouge Parish Library System. Each board consists of teens from public, private and parochial high schools as well as home-school students. The Teen Advisory Board is a teen oriented focus group. T.A.Bs offers feedback from teens to librarians to try and introduce program ideas to, for and about teens. Teens meet bimonthly to plan programs, review books and introduce issues of concern to teens. Teens in such groups suggest books and magazines for purchase, publish reviews, suggest, plan and implement public programs and services, scope out new websites, create book displays, and keep their libraries up to date with popular culture.

By joining T.A.Bs, teens will:

  • Serve as barometers of popular culture and interests to the library teen/young adult staff;
  • Act as liaison to area schools by providing two-way communication and information exchange, as well as creating new programs for teens to obtain community service hours;
  • Develop promotional or marketing tools to alert area teens to programs, services and library resources;
  • Become library advocates for youth services, programs, or materials
