Reference Services FAQ
If the Library doesn't own the book I need, can I still get it?
Can I request that the Library buy a certain book?
The Library does accept purchase requests from patrons but we cannot guarantee that requested items will be acquired.
I need some information but can't get to the Library. What can I do?
The Library can provide short answers to your questions over the phone at any branch, via text message, or through the Electronic Reference form on our web site. Or, we can do more in-depth research for you and hold the information until you come in. The Library also offers online resources that you can access from your home computer if you are a library cardholder.
How do I Text the Library?
To send us your question, simply text us at 66746 and start your question with eref.
The Reference staff will text back your answer.
Standard message rates apply. Only available when the Main Library is open.
Can the Library fax information to me?
Yes! The Library can fax brief information directly to you.
My branch library doesn't own a copy of the book I want, but other branches do. How can I get a copy?
You can have books transferred from any branch to your branch library. This usually takes 2–3 days and the service is free. Call your local branch to request the title.
All copies of the book I want are checked out. What can I do?
The Library can add your name to a list of people who want to read that book — a HOLD list. When the book is available, you are contacted and you can pick up the book at the branch library you request.
