Using the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Community Information Database
The Community Information Database provides information on
- Clubs
- Agencies
- Support groups
serving the Greater Baton Rouge area.
The database is searchable by
- Subject (such as diabetes)
- Keyword (such as children or food)
- Organization name (such as Red Cross or Boy Scouts)
Each entry includes
- Name and address of organization
- Description of services provided
- Hours of operation or meeting times
- Contact information
- Website address, if available
All entries in the database are updated annually to provide the very latest information on an agency or service. New groups are added to the database on a regular basis.
To find the Community Information database:
- On the Internet, connect to the East Baton Rouge Parish Library home page at http://www.ebr.lib.la.us/.
- Click on the Library Catalog link in the main menu on the left-hand side of the Library home page.
- Click on the Login to Catalog link in the language of your choice (Spanish, English or French).
- Click on the Community Information link and start searching! OR
- You can use the Community Information Quick Search feature on the Library's home page.
Sample Searches:
Help me find area agencies that offer computer training.
- Once you are in the catalog, select Community Information.
- In the text box, type in the words computer training, and select (one time only!) the Submit Search button.
- Once you see a list of results, select the full record button for the entry for which you want more information.
- If you see the phrase electronic resources in the full record, the agency has a web site. Select the electronic resources link, and then select the web site address to link directly to that organization.
I need a tutor for my child.
- Once you are in the catalog, select Community Information.
- Select Browse Searching.
- In the text box, type in the word tutor, and select (one time only!) the Submit Search button.
- Once you see a list of subject headings, select a subject heading (for example Tutors and Tutoring) to look at a list of individuals or organizations that are included under that subject heading.
- Select the Full Record to find complete information about an entry.
- If you are looking for a specific type of tutor (e.g. a Math tutor), try the search again using the term math tutor.
