"Mrs. Washington is a native of Baton Rouge. She is a product of Southern University Laboratory School, Xavier and Southern Universities. She is most noted as a business woman. She served as owner, President and General Manager of Gilbert Funeral Home, Inc. and Gilbert Memorial Park. She held a number of prominent professional positions. She was President of the Baton Rouge Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association for twelve years. She held memberships in the National and State Funeral Directors and Morticians Associations and was a member of the Louisiana State Ambulance Owner’s Association. She was an agent for several insurance companies and a stockholder in the Purple Shield Life Insurance Company. She was named “Outstanding Business Woman” by the Beta Theta Chapter of Iota Lambda Sorority, Inc."
