Mary Dickerson Morrison

“Mary Dickerson Morrison was born in 1912. She was the seventh child born to the late Samuel and Orelia Dickerson of Brusly, LA. Mary began her road to success in the public schools of East Baton Rouge Parish and graduated from McKinley High School as Salutatorian in 1930. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Leland College in 1946 and received her Masters Plus 30 from Southern University in 1967.
In 1934, she married William Reginald Morrison. To this union two sons were born, Reginald Jerome and Ronald Ogden Morrison.
Mary was a faithful member of Elm Park Baptist Church, pastored by her husband, Reverend William R. Morrison. She coordinated numerous church activities and spoke at various churches throughout the city. Her teaching career began in East Feliciana Parish at St. Francisville Elementary and continued at Scott Street Elementary and Park Elementary in East Baton Rouge Parish. She retired after 42 years of service. Mary was a member of Louisiana Association of Educators, The Blue Diamond Social Club, The Park Originals, Educators of Yesteryear Retired Teachers Association (E.O.Y.), and a former Secretary of the Exxon Annuitant Club. She was highly respected for her tireless dedication and commitment to her church and community. She died on Thursday, June 21, 2001 at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA.” Source: McKinley High School Alumni Association |
