"Ms. Herson is an Educator and former Professor of Education at Southern University in Baton Rouge. She is a native of Baton Rouge with degrees from Southern University (B.A. 1932) and Columbia University (M.A.1950, teacher education). She also studied administration at Colorado State College in 1963. She joined the staff of Southern University in 1944 as a supervising teacher and was appointed principal of the University Laboratory School, then chairman of the Department of Elementary Education. In 1966 she directed the university’s effort to develop a degree program in early childhood education.
She is the daughter of Joseph and Lucille (Steele) Morgan. She married Joseph Herson on Feb. 24, 1933. A widow, she has a foster daughter, Robbye Lynne Thomas.
Ms. Herson is a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority and has served as national grammateus and as national first anti-basileus. A graduate of the 1928 class of McKinley High School, she is a life member of the McKinley High School Alumni Association. She is listed in Who’s Who of American Women, Leaders in Education and the Ebony Success Library’s 1,000 Successful Blacks.”
