Print Collection


The East Baton Rouge Parish Library provides a collection of over a million books, thousands of magazines, and a wide selection of non-print materials to meet the interests of all the citizens it serves. Readers can find best-selling fiction as well as the classics, and a tremendous range of non-fiction books — from history, current events, travel and biography to science, religion, languages, the arts, hobbies, and self-help.

The Young Adult Collection focuses on the interests of junior and senior high school students with lots of popular fiction, college and career information, and books on their favorite subjects and current interests.

Younger readers can select from a wonderful selection of materials in the Children's Collection — board books for babies, favorite children's books, and a broad non-fiction collection providing information on their special interests and on school-related topics.

Audio-Visual Collection


Many of the most popular items for children and adults can be found in the Library's Audio-Visual Collection, available at all libraries.

Special Collections


The Library maintains a number of special collections, which are located at the Main Library and branch libraries.

Louisiana Collection
A large collection of materials on all aspects of the history, geography and culture of the State of Louisiana that is located at the Main Library and all branch libraries.

Louisiana and Local Government Documents
Publications produced by many Louisiana government departments and the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge. Included are The Angolite, the State Budget, Toxic Release Inventory, the City/Parish Budget, Horizon Plan Information and DEQ permit requests. These items are located at the Main library; please ask in the Reference Department for assistance with these documents.

Black Heritage Collection
An outstanding collection of print and audio-visual materials for adults and young people on the history and culture of African Americans that is located at the Scotlandville Branch Library.

Genealogy Collection
An extensive collection of books, periodicals, and microfilm on local, state, and regional family history that is located at the Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library. Also located at the Bluebonnet Regional Branch is a large genealogical collection owned by the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Foundation Center Cooperating Grants Collection
Access to Foundation Directory Online and Grants to Individuals Online is available as well as a large collection of books, periodicals and FCSearch:a CD Rom.  FC Search may be used to compose specific searches for funding.  The Foundation Center Cooperating Grants Collection is located at the River Center Branch Library. It contains reference and circulating materials to assist you in identifying and contacting grant-making organizations.

Baton Rouge Room
The Baton Rouge Room, located at the River Center Branch Library, contains historical materials on Baton Rouge history. This collection includes documents, photographs, manuscripts and books.

The Advocate Cookbook Collection
These books, donated by The Advocate and housed at the River Center Branch Library, comprise the core of our cooking collection.

Braille Books for Children
The Library's collection of Braille books for children is located in the Children's Room at the Main Library.

Vertical File
The Main Library has extensive files of newspaper clippings from The Advocate and The Times-Picayune newspapers going back to the 1930's. These files contain information on Louisiana (from parish information to LSU to politicians) and on Baton Rouge people, places and events. There are newspaper stories in the files on just about anything to do with our city and state. Other library locations in the East Baton Rouge Parish Library system also maintain vertical files, many of them focusing on neighborhood information and homework support. Call your local branch to find out what information their files contains.

Microfilm Collection
This collection, located in the Periodicals Storage area at the Main Library, contains microfilm editions of local and national newspapers as well as academic, professional and popular journals and magazines. Although this collection does not circulate, it is easily accessed and copies can be made of any article using our microfilm readers/printers.

Business Collection
In our Business collection you will find investment tools, corporate directories, company histories, business journals, legal information and online databases. We also have books to help you with business start-up, management and growth. Many of our business materials are located at the Main Library, although some items can be found at other branches and our online databases are accessible from any of our branches and from outside the Library with a valid East Baton Rouge Parish Library card.

Automobile Repair
All branches have car repair manuals in their circulating collections and have access to the online database AllData. The Main Library and the regional branch libraries (Greenwell Springs Road Regional and Jones Creek Regional) also have the Mitchell repair manuals in their reference collections.
