Size: 2,604 square feet
Opened: Originally opened in April, 1972; re-opened in February, 2006
In 1971, L.W. Eaton constructed a building adjacent to his shopping center at the corner of Hooper and Sullivan roads for the purpose of leasing it to the city as a branch library. The building was opened as the Central Branch Library on April 10, 1972. The library purchased the building in 1982. A new Central Branch Library facility was built on Joor Road and re-opened in June, 2002.
Recycled Reads, the East Baton Rouge Parish Library's Book Sale Facility, is located in the City of Central at 13505 Hooper Road, near the intersection of Sullivan Road. Regular book sales will be held on the last Saturday of each month. The hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
All sale items are gifts that the Library does not require to add to its collection, therefore, the items are shared with patrons. Proceeds of the sale go to the Patrons of the Public Library, the Library's friends group. The Patrons of the Public Library help in funding children's programming during the summer and throughout the year, such as the Author/Illustrator Program and other programs designed for the community.
Recycled Reads contains all kinds of books for sale - fiction, cookbooks, textbooks, history, travel, art, crafts, and many more to suit everyone's interests. Videos, DVDs, audiocassettes, CDs, and LPs, as well as book bags and bookmarks, are also available for purchase. Books are priced at $1.00 for hardbacks, larger-format paperbacks, videos, DVDs, and audiobooks, and 25 cents for pocket paperbacks. Sales will be cash only.
