Facilities
Size: 12,000 square feet
Opened:  Originally opened in 1942 on Government Street; rebuilt and re-opened on Terrace Street, September 6, 2005

Originally opened in 1942 on Government Street above the Eagle Drug Store, the newly developed Carver Branch Library welcomes community members to browse new materials and use its many services.  This 12,000 square foot facility replaces the previous 3,000 square foot building on Highland Road.

Now located on Terrace Street, the Library includes a covered drive-through at the new entrance and a beautifully landscaped courtyard complete with a fountain.  Its expansive glass walls frame a spectacular and breathtaking view of the Mississippi River Bridge.  A special feature of the beautiful library is its location adjacent to the new Freeman/Matthews Head Start Center.  It is the home for the Old South Baton Rouge Oral History Collection, which is filled with rich information about residents of South Baton Rouge in historical periods such as the Civil Rights Movement.

The Carver Branch Library houses over 55,000 books, 70 magazine titles, 10 newspapers, and 3,500 videos, DVDs, audiobooks, and CDs.  It contains a large Meeting Room with a kitchenette, capable of holding 101 people, which can be split into two separate rooms.  Special areas for adults, teens and children, a special Storytime Room, and display and exhibit space are also contained in the facility.  Twenty-seven PCs are available for public use including eight computers dedicated for the Meeting Room and computer classes.  Generous seating, study and work areas, including the Meeting Room, can be found throughout the facility for public and staff.

Free wireless Internet access is available at this branch.
